Director – Igor V. Bychkov, Academician of RAS.

The Institute was established in 1980.

Former Directors:

1980-1991 – Academician of RAS V.M. Matrosov, State Prize Winner;
1991-2006 – Academician of RAS S.N. Vassilyev, State Prize Winner.

Academician’s of RAS V.M. Matrosov and S.N. Vassilyev

Principal research areas:

  • methods of qualitative investigation into evolution equations and dynamic systems, and applications;
  • qualitative control theory and methods of control with application, and
  • theoretical foundations and technologies for automation of informational-computational problem solving.

The Institute’s scientists established scientific schools that have won international recognition through their achievements in the field of stability theory, logic-dynamic systems, intelligent control, differential inclusions, algebro-differential systems, mathematical theory of nonlinear integro-differential equations, and theory and technology for automation of informational-computational problem solving in computer environments.

On the basis of the theory of multi-valued mappings, the methods of nonlinear analysis of complex dynamic systems were developed, including in functional spaces, which are used in calculus of variations, mechanics, and control. The methods of mathematical modeling, optimal and adaptive control, multi-criterial decision making, and of computer-aided theorem proving, as well as the methods of developing new information technologies have been devised and implemented. Intelligent software tools, and application software systems were developed, among them the method- and problem-oriented software packages intended for analysis of mathematical models of systems of an engineering, technological, organizational and socio-ecologo-economic nature; the software packages for constructing and identifying models, and synthesizing parameters and controls; expert system shells; the software environment for distributed computations, and the corporate intelligent hybrid geoinformation system. State-of-science information technologies have been developed designed to create supporting systems for decision making, including in organs of state power, and local authorities.

The Institute serves as the Shared Database Center for computational, informational and communicational resources at the ISC SB RAS, and on a broader scale by performing the functions of devising, operating, administering and developing informational and telecommunicational resources. The ISDCT SB RAS operates the Shared Database Supercomputer Center; the Institute developed the computer cluster featuring a performance of 1.5 TFlops. Work is being underway on the creation of a new-generation cluster, namely a hybrid supercomputer “Academician V.M. Matrosov” with a performance of up to 47 TFlops. The Institute has conceived and developed the Integrated Informational-Computational Network of the Irkutsk Regional Scientific-Educational Center with the planned transmission capacity of 1 Gb/s. The Network is being constantly upgraded. The required infrastructure is being configured to enable access to, storage and processing of data for interdisciplinary scientific research.

The Institute’s research results and developments have been introduced in Russia’s major research and production associations specializing in aviation, aerospace and other studies, in Irkutsk Regional Administration, in Irkutsk Mayor’s Administration, in the teaching process in establishments of higher education, and in other spheres of real economy. The Training&Research Center for mathematical cybernetics, system analysis and investigation of operations was established under the auspices of the Institute and Irkutsk State University to train students of the Institute of Mathematics , Economics and Informatics of Irkutsk State University.

he Institute maintains fruitful scientific relations with scientific organizations and scientists of the USA, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Japan, China, UK, and a number of other countries.

The Institute for System Dynamics and Control Theory SB RAS is celebrating its 30 th Anniversary.
